If you’re looking for inspiration for a cosy, intimate barn wedding in Warwickshire, then Amy and Scott’s beautiful day at Swallows Nest Barn is everything you need to see!

With Amy and Scott, it felt like we were old friends from the first time we spoke, so I knew that being a part of their day would be an absolute pleasure!

I actually first met Amy back in 2018 at Jade and Matt’s wedding, so being asked to capture her own day felt extra special. Even better — I photographed one of her bridesmaids’ weddings just a couple of weeks after Amy and Scott’s, so it really felt like being wrapped up in the loveliest friendship circle. And knowing this group, I knew I was in for a day full of laughter, happy tears, and so much love.

Afterwards, they described their wedding as “Love-filled, Joyous & Perfect” — and honestly, it really was.

“IT WAS SO SPECIAL TO HAVE HER THERE ON THE DAY, SHE WAS WONDERFUL PUTTING US, THE CHILDREN AND EVERYONE ELSE AT EASE”.

When I found out they’d chosen Swallows Nest Barn for their wedding, I was super excited — it’s one of those venues that just gets everything right. The cosy, intimate setting, the safe space for the kids to play, and that gorgeous barn backdrop made it ideal for a relaxed, family-focused day… and a wild dance floor later on too! It couldn’t have suited Amy and Scott better.

Amy and Scott met through a mutual friend (one of Amy’s bridesmaids!) and through multiple serendipitous events they found themselves having a drink, just the two of them, one night in Paris – you couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful setting for the start of a love story. With conversations flowing from marriage, to what they wanted from life, and where they wanted to live, they were a couple of bottles of wine into the evening … and the rest, as they say, is history and what history they are making!

They chose the Swallows Nest Barn as they had both quickly decided that they loved the idea of a barn wedding, as it would feel cosy and informal, making for a perfect family friendly wedding. Amy was initially sold with the long sweeping driveway and the beautiful interior, then they were both loving how intimate the entire venue was, meaning that if their guests weren’t partying on the dancefloor, they could still very much be part of the event whilst in the courtyard.

Amy’s dress was only the second she tried on, and it was the one her mum had picked out! Now when we say ‘Mums know best’, we really do mean it – and Amy’s mum knows better than any! With the dress not being the exact style she expected (which wedding dress is?!) Amy was shocked at how comfortable she felt in it, and how well it matched the aesthetics of the venue. Reaching this momentous decision in Ava May Bridal, in Olton, Amy felt settled that she had made the perfect decision for herself – you have to remember that this dress is all about you, and how you feel in it!!

Wanting simple (but beautiful) accessories, Amy was able to borrow her earrings and necklace from her mum. These were Pearl Irish Love Knots, utilising the old wedding day saying (something blue, something borrowed…), whilst also paying homage to her Irish heritage!

As Amy is prone to hayfever, they chose a selection dried flowers from Hidden Botanics for all the bouquets and button holes. On top of it not causing any sneezing fits, both Scott and Amy loved the way florals all looked, perfectly compliment both the blue in the bridesmaids dress’ and the navy in the suits! Plus, the tone of white in Amy dress was softly highlighted by the greenery and thistles.

The Wild Halo (by Naomi) created the beautiful green and ivory arbour, with the candles down the aisle and incorporating the eucalyptus on the table styling, which encapsulated Swallows Nest already exquisite setting.

Having a second dress has now become a bit of fun trend, but at this wedding there’s a second dress for the Flower Girl! Amy & Scott knew their little girl may have a bit of change of mind on the day (and we’re not saying that there was a tantrum, but a foot may have been stomped) so the second dress came to the rescue – with all it’s fun and sparkles!

As they had a 3 and 1 year old to contend with Amy and Scott kept their ceremony on the short and sweet side, but thanks to some excellent grandparents (and large bag of sweets and new toys) they were able to enjoy this moment of their day kid-free. Making their vows about just the two them, which is the most magical part!

With Amy already besotted with the driveway, I couldn’t think of a better place to start their portraits! After dipping into their family group shots, we were able to steal away while the children were distracted with the excellent selection of garden games (who doesn’t love a toddler with a croquet mallet!). Scott and Amy were so utterly besotted with each other that I felt almost rude intruding on these private moments, but they do make for a beautiful couple!

After making sure that all the little humans were fully occupied with their sticker collection (I wish was given my own sticker collection …) the guests were able to tuck into the gorgeous selection of food on offer from Lemon Zest. With family and friends both giving emotionally charged speeches, with lashings of the best kind of humour, the day moved into the energetic evening (with a dash of lawn games thrown in). I always feel like this is the best part of the day, as family has been introduced to friends, all the ‘important’ nerve wracking parts have been done and many drinks have been drunk.

Amy and Scott started off the party in style, with a family favourite for their first dance – ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran (as Ed is a frequent playlist on their family car rides!) and the lyrics couldn’t be more suited to this perfect family! With many shapes being thrown, and kids being swung, I left the party wishing I could stay all night.

For any couples currently in the midst of wedding planning, Amy and Scott has this advice:

‘It will all come right in the end, whatever happens you will have an amazing day as you'll be with the love of your life’.

I couldn’t have said it better myself! No matter the stress in the planning, or disasters on the day – so long as you have the love of your life by your side then the day has been a success!
